PORN NATION –THE NAKED TRUTH
Friday, February 19th at 7pm in Webb Auditorium
Sponsored by the Campus Crusade for Christ
• Porn Nation is a 90 minute, multimedia-based live speaker presentation featuring nationally recognized author and recovering sex addict Michael Leahy.
• Leahy has appeared on ABC’s 20/20, The View, in USA Today, on Playboy Radio, and on Dr. Drew Live as a subject matter expert on Internet pornography, sexual addiction, and the sexualization of the culture.
• Michael Leahy has presented his critically acclaimed Porn Nation on nearly 200 campuses and will be here on the Friday February 19th at 7pm in Webb Auditorium.
Other useful info
• Porn Nation-The Naked Truth blends TV, movie, music and advertising examples into a
presentation designed to help students examine their own attitudes regarding pornography
and sexuality.
• The presentation has 2 parts. The first part explores how our increased exposure to
pornography – or sexual images and messages - affects our bodies and our minds. After a 4
minute intermission, the second part deals with how it affects us spiritually, on a soul level.
• Finally, Michael makes a connection between sexuality and spirituality and shares lessons learned in recovery about how to develop healthy relationships and attitudes on sexuality.

ong>OPERATION RICE BOWL
Each year, Operation Rice Bowl calls us to pray with our faith community; fast in solidarity with those who hunger; learn more about our global community and the challenges of poverty overseas; and give sacrificial contributions to those in need.
Your participation in Operation Rice Bowl ensures that Catholic Relief Services can continue to provide assistance to those in need in more than 100 countries. Seventy-five percent of your gifts will go to CRS to help farmers in Bolivia receive training to improve crop yields, children in Afghanistan gain more opportunities for quality education, communities in Ethiopia access reliable water sources even during times of drought, and fund many other vital projects. Twenty-five percent of your gifts remain in our diocese and support local hunger and poverty alleviation efforts.

PHOTOGRAPHERES NEEDED
We need a group of Newman photographers to photo events, liturgies, etc. First to have a history of what is happening with us, and second to participate in the Center for Religious Life’s photo montage of life in Newman. The Center is purchasing about $4,000 worth of video equipment to install a large screen monitor in the window of the Center that would have photo loops documenting religious life on campus. If interested, speak to Fr. Richard and bring a camera to any events you participate in.
Catholics On Call
Catholics on Call invites young people, ages 18-30, who are considering a life of service in the Church to join them for their 2010 young adult summer conferences. Participants will have the opportunity to connect and pray with other like-minded young adults, to hear nationally-known speakers discuss how to listen to God’s call, and to learn valuable skills that will help them to discern their vocation, whether it be to priesthood, religious life or lay ecclesial ministry.
The conference entails a week long program (Aug. 1-6, 2010) and located at Catholic Theological Union in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, these conferences are free of charge and include room and board. For an application please visit www.catholicsoncall.org or for more information contact Catholics on Call at catholicsoncall@ctu.edu or 773.371.5431.
TEACH AT THE UKRANIAN CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY
The UCU, the only Catholic university in the former Soviet Union, is hosting its 16th Annual English Summer School where East meets West in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains in Western Ukraine. They are inviting students to consider dedicating the month of July 2010 to help rebuild the Church in Eastern Europe by teaching English in Ukraine. Each year they welcome college students to teach at the university in a unique opportunity for cross-cultural exchange. There is no charge for the program. Volunteers are responsible for travel costs and then the university covers all costs of meals and lodging in Ukraine. For more information: www.ucu.edu.ua/ess. Our Newman Community had one student help out two years ago and it was a positive experience.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Newman now has subscriptions to America, U.S. Catholic, and One. They are found on the table in the center of the Religious Life office. Please do not remove them from the Center. The articles are readable and deal with current American Catholic issues. The purpose of the subscriptions is to help Newman students become aware of our Catholic intellectual tradition.
